Why visit Bilbao?

Because Bilbao offers you something that no other city can, the Guggenheim Museum. Created and managed by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in 1997, its design was carried out by the office of Frank Gehry. Currently there are only two other museums like this one, one established in New York (1959) and the other in Venice (1979). The Museum of Fine Arts and the Basque Archaeological, Ethnographic and Historical Museum are not to be missed either.

Bilbao also offers an extraordinary sightseeing tour. So much so that in 2010 this city was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew prize, the Nobel Prize for urban planning. Do not miss the opportunity to take pictures next to the Arriaga Theater, the Euskalduna Palace, the Chávarri Palace, the Azkuna Zentroa or the University of Deusto. In addition, stroll along its estuary, cross its bridges and relax in its quiet parks.
Bilbao is also a gastronomic city. Go for pintxos or taste a good pil pil cod, cod in Biscayan style or hake in green sauce. Forget about water for a few days. Accompany these delicacies with a txacolin wine.

Get to know the province of Vizcaya

In addition to visiting Bilbao, you can drive your rental van to visit the fantastic municipalities of the Biscayan geography:

Basauri

This town is located less than 9 kilometers southeast of Bilbao. The easiest way to get here is to take the BI-625 to join the N-634 at Bolueta. You enter Basauri through Baskonia Zubia Kalea. In this municipality you should visit the Church of San Miguel Arcángel, the Tower House of Ariz, the Hermitage of San Fausto Labrador and the Castro of Malmasin-Finaga.

Bermeo

The most populated town in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve is located about 40 minutes from the capital. The route is very simple. Take the N-637 to leave Bilbao and join the BI-631 road. Stroll through its port, eat in its restaurants and enter the Fisherman's Museum. Very close to here, on the road to Baquio, is San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. The 241 steps up to the hermitage are well worth the climb.

Galdakao

Galdakao, the second largest municipality in Biscay, is located 20 kilometers from the capital. To get there, you will have to drive the Furauto van along the N-637 and connect with the N-634 in Gumuzio. In this town you will find a fascinating historical-artistic heritage and an enviable gastronomy.

Portugalete

Drive your rental van along the N-637 and continue along the A-8 and AP-8. In less than 20 minutes you can be enjoying the Vizcaya Bridge, which will allow you to cross the Bilbao estuary to Getxo.
Santurtzi
Continuing a couple of kilometers more, you will reach Santurtzi. Once here, don't miss the Oriol Palace, the Town Hall, the Sardinera Monument, the Church of San Jorge and the Sculpture Museum.

Driving around Bilbao with our rental van

No two cities are the same and that is why it is essential to get some information about the most frequent situations that we are going to find as far as traffic is concerned. In this way, driving with our van will be a much more pleasant experience.

From Furauto the best advice we can give our customers when they go behind the wheel in Bilbao is to keep in mind that moving around the center is slightly more complex than doing it for the rest of the city. Something that happens frequently in many of the cities of our country.

Knowledge is the basis for not driving lost and not knowing where to go. The main streets to take into account to move around Bilbao are first the Gran Via, followed in order of importance the Alameda de Recalde and Alameda de Urquijo and finally are the Avenida de Sabino Arana, Avenida de Autonomía. The Plaza Moyua is in the center of the city center so it can be an excellent point of reference for orientation.
